New York was admitted to statehood on July 26, 1788 and is officially the 11th state of the United States.  New York is the 3rd largest state by population with an average population of 19,651,127 New York's land mass is 47,224 square miles which makes it the 30th largest state by size.  New York is bordered by the following states Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island & Vermont.  The state of New York is commonly referred to as the Empire State, which to recognize its vast wealth and variety of resources.
